“Winners” is truly the right name for this weekend’s Stage Left Theatre Company production from its 2014 Original One-Act Play Competition. The three plays selected are all topnotch.

Judging of the plays was completed by a panel of readers without any knowledge of the playwrights.

“Part of our mission statement is that we are committed to supporting new playwrights,” said Devon Kasper, artistic director.

“Assumptions” is by Judy Kiehart of Poncha Springs. This will be her third play produced at Salida SteamPlant.

“Assumptions” is directed by Alan Lane and holds the viewers’ attention until the very end when the secret of the seemingly nosy older neighbors (Samara Fay and Marty Rush) is revealed to the young couple (Isaac Koelsch and Kyria Hansen).

Peter Brewer plays the handyman.
