Chalk Houses
I was ten years old when we moved.
In this new neighborhood, children were allowed to play on the street where they drew chalk houses. Eva was older and wore a sleeveless blouse and butterfly earrings; she smiled from ear to ear. As we walked through her chalk house she pointed out the rooms, "Here's the kitchen, and this is the bathroom." I fell in love with her by the time we got to the bedroom. But then it started to rain.
